Day 1 – 24th April

Our first fixture of the day was against Shropshire, with the girls starting strong Kiah and Gina both won their matches to give us a 2-0 lead. Sofie and Maddie then followed with some competitive tennis to keep us in front both winning to secure a 4-0 win. Sofie’s hard fought match saw three tiebreaks but showed grit to win the Championship tiebreak. The doubles followed and a great opportunity for the girls to enjoy the team aspect of the game. Sofie and Kiah played well winning in straight sets, showing excellent communication and team cohesion. Gina and Maddie also played extremely well together and showed a great team spirit during play. 6-0 win against Shropshire was a great start to the day!

The next round of matches was singles against Derbyshire, who had just beaten Staffordshire 6-0. Kiah and Gina showed great determination and resilience during their matches but unfortunately both lost in straight sets. Maddie and Sofie fought hard to keep us in the tie, having some immense rallies but also came out second. 4-0 down against Derbyshire did not reflect how close the matches were and with the fast4 format, the girls did not get much chance to get back into the matches.

Day 2 – 25th April

With the sun shining the second day started with doubles against Derbyshire. The focus for the girls was to set the intensity for the rest of the day and they did exactly that. Sofie and Kiah had an epic match winning in the third set tiebreak and Maddie and Gina losing in the third set tiebreak. The quality of play for awesome! 5-1 loss to Derbyshire was not the result wanted but a great effort by the team.

Our final opponents were Staffordshire, and the girls started strong with Kiah and Gina both winning in straight sets. Sofie and Maddie then continued the winning streak with 4-0, 4-0 wins at seed 1 and 2. This secured 2nd place for the weekend but with the doubles to play, the girls were in high spirits and were keen to finish on a win. All the girls played some fantastic doubles to win both matches in straight sets and complete the 6-0 win!

A great weekend of weather, tennis, support from parents and a fantastic result. Well done H&W!
